Jailer Behind Bars For Having Sex With An Inmate

PANAMA CITY - The Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrested and fired Pedro Reyes after they say the corrections officer had sex with a female inmate on multiple occasions.

Jail administrators received a tip of Friday that Reyes, a detention corporal at the Bay County Jail, had a sexual relationship with a female inmate at the jail facility.

During the investigation, the inmate said she had sex with Reyes approximately three times from mid to late October in a storage area of the laundry facility, an area which Reyes supervised.

The Sheriff’s Office says it appears the sex was consensual. But it is against the law for corrections officers to have sex with inmates.

Investigators say Reyes told them on Tuesday that he had sex with the inmate on at least two occasions.

Reyes was arrested and charged with Sexual Misconduct between Detention Facility Employees and Inmates, a third-degree felony. Investigators believe Reyes also had sex with other female inmates, so additional charges are possible.

Reyes was booked into the Bay County Jail and then transferred to the Washington County Jail.

Reyes had been employed at the Bay County Jail since December 2008.
