Mosley Band Director Jamie Birdwell's future with the Bay County school district was decided Friday afternoon and he's the one who made the decision.

Mosley Band Director Jamie Birdwell's future with the Bay County school district was decided Friday afternoon and he's the one who made the decision.
Birdwell resigned from his job Friday during a meeting with Superintendent Bill Husfelt and several other school officials. The school board suspended Birdwell without pay during its Tuesday meeting, after his arrest last week on 4-counts of exhibition of obscene material to a child.
According to the arrest affidavits, he showed cell phone pictures of himself and his wife having sex to students, along with a nude picture of himself.
A number of students have also made more serious accusations, but police have not charged Birdwell in connection with those alleged acts.
State education officials will most likely revoke Birdwell's teaching certification. But that's the last of his legal problems, given the serious felony charges he's still facing.
Husfelt says the school district is still considering the future of Bozeman girls' soccer coach Daryl Shumate. Shumate was arrested last week after a drug sweep of the Bozeman parking lot allegedly turn-up marijuana in his car. Rright now he's suspended without pay.

At RD: I am also a student at Surfside and thats just how band works!! You need to devote your time and effort and come to after school practices and concerts!! If you don't you are just letting the whole band down.
well i'm a former A.Crawford Mosley High school Band/Auxiliary student and I never suspected anything like what I have heard from this Breaking News Report. My 4 yrs in the "Sound of The Southland Band" were the Best yrs of my life with Mr. Birdwell being one of my favorite teachers and No I was NOT aware of any of these actions that he has been accused of. I understand why alot of parents are upset but I feel that instead of wishing bad on him everybody should really take the time out and PRAY for him!!!!
Ok. Maria you are biased. With the evidence they have against Mr. Birdwell it is not good. When he Blatently lies and says this one kid was never in his home, and yet the child describes his home's interior perfectly, then BINGO, you got a HUGE PROBLEM. As to Mrs. Birdwell not knowing? B.S.!!!! They are too tight of a couple for her NOT to know what is going on. And with this Photo Album of NUDE CHILDREN in the house, THAT THE POLICE CONFISCATED AS EVIDENCE, had to be KNOWN by MRS. BIRDWELL! Also as a Sexual Abused Child myself, I have ALWAYS felt uncomfortable around Both Birdwells. I have had to deal with them both for years as my children went through the music program at Surfside. Also their actions were Highly questionable. Students who NEVER attended after school practices, rehersals, or were Hugely Diruptive were given AWARDS and CITATIONS at the end of the year while those who worked hard shunned. TYPICAL ABUSER M.O.!! So to say she didn't know is TOTALLY ASSININE!!
