Juvenile Receives Prison Sentence for Attacking School Resource Officer

A Defuniak Springs man will be going to prison for the next seven and a half years.

Judge Kelvin Wells handed the seven and a half year sentence to 18 year old Isaac McDonald Tuesday to be followed by seven and a half years of probation.

Back in January, McDonald, who at the time was a 17 year old student at the Walton Academy, attacked School Resource Officer Ben Dowdy.

Dowdy had been trying to keep peace on campus at Walton Academy after several students began to get involved in an altercation.

Dowdy suffered a broke his nose and a concussion.

McDonald pled no contest in August to one count of aggravated battery on a law enforcemnet officer, clearing the way for Tuesday's sentencing.
