Keeping the Tradition of Live Christmas Trees Alive Amidst a Hectic Holiday Season

By  |

Chipley- Brenda Maphis has owned Maphis Tree Farm and Nursery for the past 12 years. She said the holiday season had been a particularly busy year for business because a tree lot in Fountain, Florida closed.

But, the Fountain farm is just one of a growing number of live tree lots unable to compete with retailers of artificial Christmas trees. Today, few local tree lots are left and Maphis agreed the live tree tradition had taken a hit.

But, she said there was one thing artificial trees couldn't offer, and that's what was keeping her tree business alive..

"An artificial tree, you put it up and you're through" Maphis said. "But, you know, there again, you're sacrificing smell, atmosphere, the family outing that you get to do together with your family- the memories you're making with your kids. You know, that's a big sacrifice in my book for an artificial tree."

Maphis said people could come out December 8th and make some more family memories with Santa Clause. Ol' Saint Nick has planned to make a special stop at the tree farm and will be accepting Christmas lists.

Maphis said to bring a flashlight and camera and for kids to bring their wish list.

Maphis Tree Farm is located at:
