Panama City- A man wanted for attempted murder in Okaloosa County is in Miami hospital after a shoot out with police.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force tried to arrest 36 year old Joe Fernandez around noon on Friday at a house in North Miami Beach.

Police say Fernandez ran from the officers, then turned around and shot at them.

A North Miami police officer returned fire, shooting Fernandez in the arm and the leg.

Paramedics took him to Jackson memorial hospital where he's listed in stable condition.

Fernandez is wanted for the August 1st shooting of 32 year old Tamera Sheffield in Ft. Walton Beach.

Besides the attempted murder, robbery, and firearms possession charges in Okaloosa County, Miami authorities are now charging Fernandez with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
