Local Man Charged with Bribing Police

Panama City-- Panama City police are charging 24-year old Daniel Norona with bribery of a law enforcement officer and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Investigator say Norona, an employee at Dan's Pawn shop on Beck Avenue planned to rob the shop.

"Thanks to the Panama City police department and some good detective work, thank fully he did not get to execute what he was planning," said pawn shop owner Avery Adcock.

But, apparently Norona did not make it hard for police to catch him. They say he actually aproached a long time friend, who's also a member of the Panama City police force, and offered him 10-thousand dollars to divert the focus of any subsequent investigation into the planned burglary.

"He was not undercover, he was not in uniform, he was not in a patrol car. They are friends. He knows he is a police officer. It just happened at a mutual place," said investigator Sgt. Brewer.

Authorities say the officer, whose name has not been released, followed protocal and informed his superiors of the alleged plot.

"Snce i've been here, we haven't had a case like this, where we have charged someone of bribery, so this is an unusual case for us," said Brewer.
