Local World War II Veterans got a special holiday treat Wednesday.
The Woman’s Club of Panama City hosted a luncheon for the special group of about a hundred. Several Korean and Vietnam Veterans also took part.
One 87 year old Navy Veteran still has a picture of the day he enlisted at the age of 17 and the one of the day he retired 30 years later.
His wife of 62 years says the Navy was always his first love.
Guests were treated to a great lunch with homemade desserts, a few Christmas carols and even a present given out by old Saint Nick.
Woman’s Club members say they are honored to serve these oldest of our living heroes.
"This is an honor for us to provide the venue for these gentlemen to be able to socialize with each other and recognize that there are few times that they can actually get together and have conversations about life because these men have lived a long time since their World War II experience," said Jan Gainer.
The veterans had plenty of stories to share and most were willing to tell them.
