Tuesday night the city council in Mexico Beach voted unanimously to hold an internal investigation of their police department in response to other investigations taking place from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Bay County Sheriff's Office.
Mayor Al Cathey doesn't expect the investigation to last long, but he hopes that once it's all said and done the city will be able to move on and move forward.
The vote comes after 3 separate investigations began, one by the Bay County Sheriff's Office and two by the FDLE.
City officials say the investigation shouldn't last longer than two weeks and residents concerned about their safety will have nothing to worry about regarding their safety.
"I think it will bring to light if we have issues," says Cathey. "That's the whole purpose of this. You know, we want to know if we need to take corrective action inside our own house."
