The helicopter tourism business is becoming a booming industry in Destin, but that's not coming without some controversy.
A local judge is scheduled to rule Tuesday on a dispute between a helicopter tour operator and Okaloosa county officials. Some nearby residents are concerned about noise and safety issues posed by the Timberview helicopter franchise operating from the Destin Commons mall parking lot.
Last month county officials issued an emergency 180-day moratorium against helicopter flights originating anywhere other than the airport. Timberview took the issue to court and received an injunction against the moratorium.
The judge's decision may impact future chopper businesses.
Timberview is operating under a temporary-use permit issued by the Florida Department of Transportation.
