A few local restaurants are donating their leftover food to local food banks.
Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and Longhorn all participate in the program in conjunctoin with the Darden Harvest Program. Last year, the program donated 1.4 million pounds of food in Florida.
Locally, the Olive Garden donates its food to the Panama City Rescue Mission.
"As far as how much is donated on a weekly basis, some weeks we may have 30 pounds of food that will go, another week we may have 120 pounds, hopefully not very often at that," said Olive Garden General Manager Patricia Adkins, "we try to predict exactly how much we'll need for the day's business."
The extra food is frozen and then stored for pick up where it is then processed at the Panama City Rescue Mission.
