MLK Festival: A Sign of How Far We've Come

Updated: Tue 9:38 AM, Jan 22, 2013

Thanks in part to the good weather, the annual MLK festival had one of it's best turn outs in recent years.

Crowds enjoyed speeches from community leaders, food, music, and free items from vendors. The festival began over 20 years ago when area schools decided to shut down schools on Martin Luther Kings birthday.

According to organizers, the event is a good example of the equality and togetherness that MLK pursued. "Our crowd is diverse in so many ways. We have people from wheel chairs to strollers. Black, white, blue, brown, yellow we have a great crowd and they all blend together," says organizer Mylan Hines.
