Sneads- When the mailbox bandits struck last year, Sneads resident Patise Cruise said she was safe.
“I always had a P.O. Box,” she explained, “but last year, [the mail box bashers] tore the whole post up [of her neighbors mailbox] and everything. Last year they was tearing up everybody's box."
But a few months ago, Cruise broke down and bought a mail box - and this time around - she was a target.
"Now I got one, and it was pretty nice, but they beat it up."
Cruise and her neighbors weren't alone- in the past two months, Jackson County Sheriff, Lou Roberts estimated the “upwards of 15” mailboxes had been targeted. In Calhoun County, Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel said the number was “between 20 and 30.”
"I don't know whether its juveniles out joy riding- having fun at night… but it can be very expensive. You can spend $30 - $40 dollars having your mailbox replaced" Roberts said.
Cruise was lucky; the attack only cost her $5. She said that was about how much it cost to buy herself pack of permanent markers.
“That made me feel better,” she explained,” writing 'ouch' on it! Let them know you ain’t got to hit me no more, I felt it” she said laughing.
While Cruise is able to find humor in the situation, Officials failed to find it funny. They've asked anyone with information to please call Crime Stoppers, 1 888 804 8494
