DEFUNIAK SPRINGS City officials are already working on next year's “Lakefest” after a very successful inaugural event this past weekend.
City officials say all the hard work putting it together was well worth it.
Hundreds showed up for the event, which included a 5K run, paddle board races, vendors and a car show.
Mayor Bob Campbell says DeFuniak Springs has a lot to offer, from its historical district to the beautiful lake.
He says “Lakefest” was all about bringing tourism to northern Walton County.
"Obviously people will come down and spend a week at the beach and they want to do other things besides be on the beach the whole time we are here. So we have some alternative things that are very enjoyable. A lot of the residents from South Walton and Destin that come here love this lake,” said Mayor Campbell.
City officials say they are excited to start planning for next year.
