Fatal Shooting During Newborn Celebration

PANAMA CITY-- A suspect is under arrest in connection with the death of a Panama City man.

Bay County Sheriff's Deputies said it may have been accidental. The victim, 33 year old Stephen Ayers, was shot and killed while celebrating the birth of his three day old baby. He was surrounded by his wife and family when he was hit by a bullet at his home on Michigan Court around six Tuesday night.

Bay County Sheriff's Deputies said Ayers' body was found inside the front door and there was a bullet hole in the back sliding glass door. While looking for the gunman, deputies found and detained Charles Edward Shisler, who was behind the home.

Investigators said Ayers and Shisler were neighbors and they don't think it was intentional. Shisler is charged with homicide negligent manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm.
