SATELLITE BEACH, Florida - A man sinks a Disney Cruise with his girlfriend and her two children when he robs a bank.
Cedrick Swinson drove them down from North Carolina to Satellite Beach. But they never made it on the ship because Swinson ended up behind bars.
Satellite Beach Police responded to a robbery in progress Thursday morning at a Navy Federal Credit Union. The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and implied he had a weapon.
The suspect was gone when police got there. But bank tellers were able to give police an “excellent description” of the suspect and his vehicle. Police and two Brevard County Sheriff's deputies stopped the SUV, with North Carolina tags, within minutes. Swinson was behind the wheel. All the money was recovered, but no weapon was found.
Swinson told police he could not access his bank account when he got to Florida, so he decided the rob the bank with his girlfriend and her two children, ages 11 and 6, waiting in the parking lot.
But police say Swinson robbed the bank because he doesn’t have enough money for the whole trip.
Police are confident the girlfriend did not know Swinson planned to rob the bank.
Swinson is charged with robbery, grand theft and driving on a suspended license.
