A Springfield man is behind bars facing attempted murder charges following a shooting incident Friday night.

19-year-old Arthur Cage III allegedly shot more than a dozen rounds from a 12 gauge shotgun Friday night.

According to police, Cage and his wife were inside a home on Forestdale Avenue in Springfield playing poker with 47-year-old Harry Coy and his adult son when an argument broke out.

Cage pulled out a shotgun and said he would kill everyone because Coy disrespected him and his wife. Cage's wife tried to disarm him but was unsuccessful. She managed to escape the home and called 9-1-1.

Coy tried to leave the home, too, and that's when Cage began firing. Cage followed Coy outside and continued shooting, hitting two neighbors' cars but never striking Coy. When authorities arrived, Cage ran back into the home.

Officers evacuated neighbors and secured a perimeter around the home.

"I got a 78-year-old father-in-law. We had to get him out in the rain. We had to exit the house since it was so close to the shooting. And he was shooting towards my house. Not at me. But to my car," said Ronald Murphy who lives right next door.

Authorities made contact with Cage over the phone. He admitted to shooting at Coy and said unless police guaranteed he would not be arrested, he was going to kill himself.

After a half-hour of negotiations, authorities were able to convince cage to put his gun down and he came out of the home. Cage was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder and three counts of felony criminal mischief. More charges are pending.
