Memorial Service for Kayte Hollingsworth

Updated: Fri 9:59 PM, Sep 28, 2012

"Anybody who came in contact with her, came in contact with joy," said Reverend Chris Ackerman of Kayte Hollingsworth.

The 26-year-old faced a battle with fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma, a rare form of liver cancer that primarily effects young, otherwise healthy adults.

Friends and family of Hollingsworth attended the memorial where they were reminded of the positive impact she had on all that she encountered and the legacy that she left behind.

"To love life, to perservere and live a good life," said Kayte's mother, Cecilia Taunton. "To take advantage of opportunities that are offered or there, or make them happen...to accept help when you stand in need of that and to give help when you can."

Local residents raised more than $100,000 in efforts to help Hollingsworth make the trip to India to receive the experimental surgery procedure. Taunton says that the surgery worked and that she hopes more research will be done to help others in Hollingsworth's situation.
