Murderer Executed Wednesday Night in Florida

The governor's office says 59-year-old Larry Eugene Mann was pronounced dead at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday after a lethal injection at the Florida State Prison near Starke.

Larry Eugene Mann was put to death for the 1980 murder of a 10-year old Pineallas County girl.

Elisa Vera Nelson was riding her bike to Palm Harbor Elementary School after a dental appointment when Mann kidnapped her. Police found her beaten and bruised body in an orange grove close to the school.

Mann was a paroled sexual predator, whose own words, along with evidence, helped convict him at trial. He'd been on death row for 32-years.

Several of Elisa's relatives were among the 28 witnesses to see Wednesday night’s execution. They sat on the front row, wearing buttons with her photo on them.

Mann did not have any last words.

The execution took place a little more than an hour after the U.S. Supreme Court denied Mann's latest appeal.
