Panama City's new event handbook has only been in effect for about a month and it's already costing the city some longtime events.
The new policy requires event organizers to pay higher fees, as well as part of the costs for police overtime. When the plans were under discussion, a number of event organizers complained it would put them out of business.
The Crewe of Massaline was one of those groups. Last month members approached Lynn Haven about hosting their Mardi Gras parade, however Lynn Haven declined; and now it appears another events may follow.
The events handbook limits races and runs to 3 approved 5K routes and the city will no longer allow run/walk events on public holidays. That's caused the Panhandle Runners Club to postpone the Annual Midnight Chase Run--the race has been staged by the group for 30 years.
