New Hospital Board Member Refuses to Serve

PANAMA CITY-- Tuesday's Bay County Commission meeting ended on a bit of a contentious and confusing note.

The commission's appointee to the Bay Health Foundation Board wants off the board.

Last year, George Gainer was adamant about having a commission member on that board.

He's been serving in that capacity since November.

But after giving his hospital report this morning, Gainer said he wanted to step down and nominated Commissioner Guy Tunnell to take his spot.

Tunnell declined, but the commission voted 4 to 1 to make him the commissioner's new representative on the board.

The meeting ended with Tunnell saying he'll refuse to serve and asking for an opinion from the county attorney

Neither man commented afterward.
