New Operator Approved for Bay Town Trolley

PANAMA CITY - The Bay Town Trolley system has a new operator.

The Bay County Transportation Planning Organization approved first transit today to take-over as the new operator for the Bay Town Trolley.

The move consolidates trolley management and operations under one company. Each function was previously under different companies.

A number of national companies were in the running for the job. The subcommittee whittled the list to two, then graded them on a number of factors.

Chairman Rodney Friend had this to say, "We did have the two vendors, the first was First Transit, which is our current manager and then we had Merrick, which is a new entity out of Jacksonville and First Transit scored the highest with a 407, I believe it was, and the second was like 341."

The TPO Board also approved Chairman Rodney Friend and Vice Chair Mike Nichols to continue in their roles for the next fiscal year.
