Some Inlet Beach residents are continuing their campaign against a propose Dollar general store in their neighborhood.
Dozens showed-up at the latest South Walton Design Review Board meeting Thursday night, to voice their opposition to the plans. This board is only concerned with making sure homes and businesses fit-in with the asthetic feel of the 30-A corridor.
Residents actually complimented the retail giant for their efforts to conform the look of the new Dollar General store to the area.
Inlet beach resident larry brocato: "It's not that we don't like Dollar General and we don't like their yellow sign or anything. But they have done, they've done some great work on the architecture and made the architecture of the building much more compatible. Not perfect, but much better than where we started."
The design review board approved the stores latest design at Thursday night’s meeting. The plans now go to the Walton County Planning Board for discussion next Thursday, where residents are expected to talk about the new store generating dangerous traffic congestion, and being too big for the proposed site located at the corner of Highway 98 and North Walton Lake Shore Drive.
In the interest of full disclosure, we must point out Newschannel 7's Chief Meteorologist Chris Smith is one of the organizers of an on-line petition against the new Dollar General store.
