The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about some pretty bold scam artists targeting the elderly. Officials say they're using law enforcement officials as the middle men.
Officers say they got a call yesterday from someone claiming to be a Jamaican doctor asking to be put in contact with some residents at Bob Hope Village in Shalimar. The bogus doctor claimed a family member of the couple had been in an accident and was in a coma.
The sheriff's office reports similar scams scaring individuals with emergency scenarios in hopes of duping them into shelling out cash. If you think you've been a victim of a scam, call the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office fraud hotline (850)651-7674.
