OKALOOSA COUNTY - Okaloosa district school officials are considering a review of the student transfer process after seven Ft. Walton Beach high school football players requested transfers to Niceville High School.
These are highlights of last year's game between the two schools, which Niceville won by a score of 28 to 21, even without the services of their starting quarter back.
The Eagles went onto a 13 and 2 season, losing the 7A state title game to Dwyer High School out of Palm Beach County.
Ft. Walton Beach was not as fortunate. The 6A vikings ended up with a 3 and 7 record.
We asked Niceville's football coach John Hicks about the transfers. He claims students only transfer for academic reasons, not athletics.
The student has to submit a waiver and then speak to the principal of the school they want to attend. Students can transfer anytime throughout the year, but Okaloosa School Board Member Dewey Destin says the process may be too easy to abuse.
He says he'll recommend tougher guidelines during the next few school board meetings.
