Panama City - The asset purchase agreement lists about $154 million worth of Bay Medical Center property, everything from furniture to medical equipment.
Bay County Commissioner Mike Thomas says now that he's seen the document, He’s better prepared to make a final decision. Bay County Commissioners have called the decision to lease Bay Medical Center for the next 40 years one of the most difficult they'll ever make.
Some say they're still upset Bay Medical CEO Steve Johnson did not fully disclose the hospital's financial hardship sooner. But commissioner Mike Thomas says he's talked to the county's outside advisor from First Southwest Consulting as well as the heads of Sacred Heart, LHP, and Bay Medical Center.
"We all in this area know Sacred Heart and trust them. They've done a good job from people to the west of us and to the east and it does make since for them to be here I think," said Thomas.
But before he casts his vote, Thomas says he still needs to know all three groups are committed.
"I need to hear from Sacred Heart that they are the health care provider that we need and that they are committed to stay here in Bay County along with LHP," said Thomas.
Bay Medicals Board of Trustees is holding a lease workshop February 2nd. They'll vote on the assets agreement on February 3rd. Bay County Commissioners have not scheduled a vote on the APA or the overall lease.

he should only be worried about paying back that redpine money. When are you commissioners that voted for that going to pay our money back?
once again, why is the county so concerned now over health care in our community? they have never cared and it has always fallen to Bay Medical to provide the care. Unless we want taxes on top of taxes to help fund this care, let the merger take place and keep the county out of it.
Mike Thomas is a good ol' lap dog. He'll do what he's told by the rich and powerful in our community.
