Operation Crop Drop Delivers for Food Pantries

Posted: Sat 7:18 PM, Nov 17, 2012

One local organization is working hard to make sure families in need will have food on the table this Thanksgiving. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans along with several local churches and businesses organized the annual crop drop.

Earlier this month organizers gave out bags to people in the community so they could fill them with non-perishable food items and return the bags to drop off locations this morning. The group had three drop off locations in Okaloosa, Walton, and Bay counties. They estimate to have received $80,000 worth of produce this year to help families in need.

"We have much more families below the poverty level than do other counties around us,” said Juan Andrada of Thrivent Financial Crop Drop. “We are trying to help those people because we are firm believers that a healthy community is what is needed for prosperity."

The food was set for pick up by local food pantries. Organizers say the food should be available tomorrow.
