A program that sends food home with children in need gets a financial boost Tuesday.
Scott Flitcraft with the Panama City Fire Department presented a $1,000 check to benefit the backpack program at Oakland Terrace School.
Volunteers fill backpacks with food for kids of low income families to take home.
This specific donation will help with food over Christmas break.
"Here at Oakland Terrace it means a tremendous amount. It provides Christmas food for our kids, kid friendly meals for our kids. Over 371 children over the Christmas break," said Deniece Moss.
The department raised the funds during their annual haunted house in the candlewick neighborhood in October.
The beach fire department will make a similar donation at Hutchinson Beach Elementary school Friday morning.
