Panama City Beach- Although service from the Panama City Beach may not be changing, their location could very well be. Police Chief Drew Whitman said his fifty plus person squad is outgrowing the department's original building off Back Beach Road built back in the late 1960s.
"We're out of storage. If you've been to our building we've got some storage units out there that we have to rent to put some of our supplies in," said Whitman.
Before he can do anything, he first has to get the OK from the Panama City Beach City Council. Thursday council members made no decision during their budget workshop but did express support for the idea, and that's despite budget cuts they're making across the board.
"For 2013, we've pretty much kept our revenue flat," said Panama City Beach City Clerk Holly White.
Whitman said he realizes budgets are tight, but said the timing couldn't be better.
"This is the best time to get it at the rates of the building and construction costs. This is the prime time to do it before it gets too expensive and we can't build," said Whitman.
Whitman said there are currently three possible new locations all near the Panama City Beach Fire Rescue Station off Back Beach. He wouldn't go into specifics Thursday about the costs associated with the possible move.
