Panama City Beach -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that happened on the far west end of Panama City Beach that sent the motorcyclist to the hospital in critical condition.

The crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday, near the intersection of Lake Powell Road and Highway 98, as a Kawasaki motorcyclist from driven by a Missouri man slammed into the right side of a gold 4-door Lexus with Georgia plates that turned left in front of the motorcycle while trying to cross Back Beach Road.

The car, driven by an 82-year-old woman from Georgia, sustained damage to the right front panel where the motorcycle hit it, and the car’s windshield was shattered as well. The motorcycle was totaled, and the driver, 24-year-old Justin Peterson, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. FHP officers say Peterson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
