Panama City Beach Council Member in Hot Water

A Panama City Beach council member is in hot water for allegedly behaving inappropriately.

According to witnesses, Keith Curry acted inappropriately at a party held for a softball team.

The alleged incident happened last month during a gathering at the Sandbar Seafood & Deli restaurant on Highway 79.

"There was a get together one evening here at the restaurant,” said David Humphreys, the owner of the restaurant. “I was contacted by a couple of people asking if they could have their end of the year softball tournament here,"

Panama City Beach Councilman Keith Curry attended the party.

Several people accused Curry of using racial slurs including the “n” word in reference to an African American restaurant employee, and making sexual advances toward two other employees.

"I immediately called the city attorney and asked what was the responsibility of the city and what action did we need to take, to take care of our employees and asked him to get with the city manager about what needed to be done," said Panama City Beach Mayor Gayle Oberst.

Panama City Beach City Manager Mario Gisbert and City Attorney Doug Sale are looking into the accusations.

Although no one has filed a formal complaint, one person has reportedly asked for an apology from Curry.

"I would think that anyone would be embarrassed, and so I just am hoping the situation can be cleared up as quickly as possible,” said Oberst. “We have a great set of employees."

Humphreys' believes the incident has been blown out of proportion, and said he has not heard any complaints from his employees.

"I'm not aware of any inappropriate behavior,” he said. “We host a lot of people, this is a family restaurant. I'm not aware of any employee that felt like they were mistreated."

This is not the first time Curry's been accused of an alcohol-related issue, he was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service work after a DUI arrest in 2006.

We were not able to get in touch with Councilmen Curry for comments.
