Bay County Tourists Development Council board members have agreed to invest in what could big a huge event for the area.
They approved $350,000 in funding Tuesday for a new fall event called Gulf Jam.
The concert is being promoted by the same folks who have run the successful Bama Jam series in Southeast Alabama.
Past Bama Jam headliners have included Kid Rock, George Straight, Kenney Chesney, ZZ Top, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Sheryl Crow.
Promoters are promising the same caliber artist for the Panama City Beach version, including The Zac Brown Band and Toby Keith.
TDC officials are excited about the time, scheduled to take place the last weekend of September.
"This could be a real good game changer for Panama City Beach,” said Dan Rowe with the TDC. “Labor Day is a great weekend, Lobster Fest, Gulf Coast Jam will be the following weekend, Thunder Beach, Pirate Fest, Chamber Seafood Festival, event after event. It could be the best ever for Panama City Beach."
Promoters want to set up three stages along the beach for small acts, with the headliners playing at Frank Brown Park, but the details are still in the early stages.
"Now the negotiations will start to really bring this event together," said Rowe.
Promoters plans to announce an artist line up and ticket prices in the near future.
