A Panama City man is behind bars in Alabama on counterfeiting charges.
Gulf Shores Police arrested Mark Elking, Jr. April 23 after they say he tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at a pharmacy.
The pharmacy called police around to report a customer trying to use counterfeit cash. Elking was gone before police arrived. But the pharmacy was able to give them a description of Elking and his vehicle.
Police spotted the vehicle a short time later. They conducted a traffic stop and found “evidence of a counterfeiting operation.”
Police arrested Elking and charged him with criminal possession of forged instrument, a Class B felony, and criminal possession of forgery device, a Class C felony.
Elking is being held on $30,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact Detective Shane Lindsey at 251-968-2431.
