Panama City Man Found Guilty in Murder Trial

Calvin Grubbs

Calvin Grubbs

A Bay County jury convicted Calvin Grubbs on Wednesday of first-degree felony murder and attempted robbery with a firearm.
Circuit Judge Elijah Smiley then sentenced him to life in prison.

Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Hawkins told jurors in her opening statement that Grubbs, 23, and three companions attempted to rob three men at a dice game the night of Sept. 7.

They were all armed as they came out of the bushes next to a residence at 2514 E. 11th St. and confronted the men playing dice on the porch. The robbers yelled, “Don’t move,” Hawkins said, but then started shooting.

One of the robbers was armed with an AK-47, the others had
handguns, and they sprayed the area with bullets. Marc Logan, 41, was struck in the head by a bullet fired by one of Grubbs co-defendants and bled to death before help could arrive. Hawkins said the robbers fled without even grabbing any cash.
