Parents Arrested After Altercation with Their Child

JACKSON COUNTY-- Jackson County Sheriff's deputies arrested a couple charged with domestic battery and child abuse, after they called the police on their own son.

Sheriff's deputies say Norman and Patricia Cooper left their home to go out drinking and told their 13-year-old son not to enter their home.

The couple's son later told deputies that he'd been living next door with his adult sister because of family problems, but he did go to his parent's home to get his Play Station 3 while they were out.

Deputies say the couple began to fight their child when they returned and realized he'd been inside their home.

Norman Cooper punched and slapped the child before throwing a hammer at him, which missed.

The mother, Patricia Cooper then grabbed the child in a choke hold.

He escaped and deputies say he was "relatively unharmed."

The parents called law enforcement to report the burglary, but a witness confirmed that the child had been involved in an altercation.

Deputies arrested the couple and took them to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

Norman Cooper is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
