Panama City - The first national survey of it's kind shows that more than 76 thousand drivers a day do not obey the law when it comes to safely passing a school bus.
Both sides of traffic must stop for the bus if there is not a median dividing the two sides of the street. According to a survey by student transportation officials, there are about 13 million illegal passes of school buses in a typical school year.
Bay District Schools says it hears constant concerns from parents and bus drivers. Passing a school bus when it's stop sign is out is about a $180 fine, and while Bay District Schools says our area police do a good job enforcing this law, there is not enough man power to patrol the more than five thousand bus stops in Bay County.
