Shooter, Victim Identified in Afternoon Publix Shooting

UPDATE: (5:00pm)

The Panama City Police Department continues to investigate a shooting incident that occurred in the parking lot of the 23rd Street Publix.

Tuesday shortly before 1:00pm, officers responded to the scene of shots being fired and a female victim identified as 24 year old Megan Pettis was shot having crashed her car into parked vehicles.

The shooter is identified as 41 year old Joseph (Joey) Moody.

Pettis is currently listed in critical condition at Bay Medical Center for multiple gunshot wounds that are life threatening.

Moody has been charged with attempted felony murder (Domestic)
and discharging a firearm in public.

Moody has being transported to the Bay County Jail.

Both Pettis and Moody are local residents who have recently ended a
relationship together.

This case is still under investigation and more details will be released, as they are made available.


UPDATE (2:00pm):

The shooter is a male and the victim is a female.

The two got into an argument and the male shot the female multiple times.

The female then drove into the Wendy's parking lot where she crashed into three parked vehicles.

She was taken to Bay Medical Center in an unknown condition.

The shooter is in custody and was taken to the Bay County Jail.

The area in taped off and the Panama City Police Department are investigating.


Panama City police are working on a shooting that happened shortly before 1:00 Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the 23rd Street Publix shopping center behind Wendy’s.

Initial reports say a man driving a gray Dodge Ram pick up truck, fired several shots at another person in the parking lot. Four bystanders in the parking lot were able to capture the shooter and hold him until police arrived.

The victim was apparently shot in the head, according to one eye witness.

Police detectives have not released any details. We have a reporter at the scene and will have more details as soon at they become available
