The Northwest Florida Beaches Airport Board met Tuesday at a special session to address a long running problem and hopefully provide a cure for it. Ever since the airport was built it has had an ongoing problems with its storm water management system.
The board voted to award a contract to Phoenix Construction for the augmentation of the present system and for creation of additional retention ponds.
Phoenix was the low bidder at 3.2 million dollars and after a meeting with the designers and Phoenix they were able to bring that price down to 2.6 million.
The last part of the meeting was a vote to accept a grant from the F-A-A for 90 percent of the construction cost with 5 percent being provided by the state and the remaining 5 percent from the airport board.
John Wheat is the Airport Executive Director. "We went out for a competitive bid. The nice thing that Phoenix brings to this job is they understand our site."
