Newschannel Seven has learned Panama City Democrat Alvin Peters plans to run for the 2nd District U.S. House seat now held by Republican Steve Southerland.
Democrat Peters, the longtime chairman of the Bay County Democratic party, has opened a campaign account to seek the congressional seat.
The local attorney ran for office for the first time earlier this year when he campaigned for the Panama City mayor's position.
Southerland is in his first two year term, having defeated longtime incumbent Allen Boyd last year. Former State Senator Nancy Argenziano is also running for the Southerland seat, as an independent.
