TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A new poll shows Florida voters approve of bringing Las Vegas style casinos to the state by a small margin and nearly three-fourths say gambling is not morally wrong.
Independents, Democrats and men most strongly supported the idea of having casinos in Florida while Republicans and women were nearly evenly divided on the subject.
A random telephone survey of 1,412 registered voters taken from Jan. 4-8 by Quinnipiac University showed 48 percent in favor of casino gambling in the state compared to 43 percent who were opposed. However, 61 percent said they believed casinos would be good for the state's economy to 33 percent who disagreed. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
The Legislature begins its examination of the issue Tuesday.

Check out the headlines lately? Vagrancy, robberies, and drunk driving is already rampant here. Considering how many people go to Biloxi every day to gamble, it would be nice to get some of that money into our economy. I am not sure where you got your stats from but casinos do bring money into a region. Remember, Las Vegas was just a small town in the desert prior to the casinos opening. We already have the negatives that can come with casinos, we might as well reap the benefits from them.
What is the difference if we have scratch offs, black jack, dog racing, slots, poker, etc. already. It's all the same, gambling is gambling and we have enough of it now that if there were any negative impacts from it, we would see it already. It's ridiculous we do not have casinos by now. For now, we can at least vote for slots without any politicians involved. Check this out YourChoiceForJobsDOTcom If you see Jeb Bush hanging around anywhere, tell him to go on permanent vacation back to Texas. He tried to intervene and pursue voters to vote NO back in 2005 in Miami/Dade and Broward counties when they were trying to vote for slots at their local racetracks. Good luck Washington county!
We need to vote out the representatives and legislators that vote against this casino bill. If the majority of us want it, then they better listen. YOU (politicians) can't run things if you don't have a position can you?. You are supposed to be there to represent and support US, WE THE PEOPLE. We will vote you all OUT! We are the ones paying for your salaries and expenses. Politicians need to quit trying to play GOD and string along all the gambling donations year after year. It's just a game to them and it's costing US millions to out of state casinos and the Seminoles who have a very one-sided monopolistic deal with Florida. Thanks to Q-Tip Charlie and all the rest. Wake up Florida, Some of our leaders are real idiots just playing the game wanting to suppress our freedom and keep from growing if they can make a buck doing it.
