Red snapper season is always a hit for Bay County bringing in thousands of visitors to fish in the Gulf of Mexico. This year has seen the shortest season for those hoping to catch the fish, spanning from June 1 to June 28 in federal waters.
However, now it seems locals and visitors alike may catch a break. New data is showing that the number of red snapper has gone up as many fishermen had been saying in the passing years.
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will be meeting July 17th in New Orleans to discuss the possibility of a fall season for the fish and many locals are cautiously optimistic about the plans.
The meeting is open to public comment and will take place at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel located at 2 Poydras Street in New Orleans, Louisiana.
