Chipley- A possible lead in a nine year old murder case brought Central Florida authorities to Washington County. Winter Park investigators believe the murder suspect has been living in Chipley.
Cheryl McGillicuddy was unloading her truck at her Winter Park apartment in 2003. She was approached by an unknown black male and the two got into a heated argument. The man chased her into her apartment and shot her twice.
For almost a decade Winter Park Investigator, Jeff Harris has searched for the man who killed the former officer. "Not that we wouldn't want to solve it if it were someone else, but that just kind of motivates you that much more" Harris said.
After eight years of searching, the department finally got the break they'd been waiting for. Last year, a source came forward with what Harris called, "credible information". Tips from the anonymous informant led investigators to Chipley.
Winter Park police sent flyer's to every home in the Washington County area. "We know who he is" Harris said. "We don't have anything to indicate that the general public is at risk. But, you know, we don't have anything to indicate that he's not going to do anything" Harris said.
One Chipley resident, Robbie Crews told us, "It's scary to know that someone from our community could be involved in this case, and be among us and we don't even know."
Although not directly involved with the case, Washington County authorities also asked for the public's help. Sheriff Bobby Haddock said, "If you have any information, please, please step forward. You can call us. Call our local Crime Stoppers. Or, if you don't feel comfortable, call Winter Park."
If you have any information involving the case, call the Crime Stoppers tips line, (850) 638-TIPS (8477) or Winter Park Police,
(407) 644-1313. A $10,000 reward is available to the person with information leading to an arrest.
