The Mega Millions jackpot would normally be a big draw for lottery players. However, it happens to come at the same time the Powerball jackpot is up to 360-million dollars, the third highest ever.
People go to Dodge's Fried Chicken for a few things, gas and fried chicken. But they also go into the store for lottery tickets.
The wednesday night Powerball jackpot is up to 360-million dollars, the third largest in history for the game.
"I figured today I might have a chance like anybody else and I want to pay my house off," said Josephus Williams Jr., a Panama City resident.
"I want to get my mom a better house and I want to get me and my family in a house instead of the apartments that we're in," said Don Gaines, another Panama City resident.
Some residents say they play Powerball by either picking their favorite numbers or somebody's birthday, but others say they leave it up to luck.
"Just at random. Just a quick pick. Because a friend of mine won 40-million in chicago and that's all he did was pick a quick pick," said Williams Jr.
Dodge's employees say they've seen a bump in business today.
"On the day of the actual drawing and depending on the number or the amount of the drawing, we see an increase in people buying tickets," said Michael Rivas, with Dodge's Fried Chicken.
The way to win the game is to match the numbers of all five white balls and the red Powerball. Tickets are $2 a piece. The odds of winning the jackpot are about one in 175-million.
The all-time record jackpot for Powerball was $587.5 million which occurred in November.
