Marianna- Just before Friday night's football game at Marianna High School, students, parents, and even the players went through with reciting the Lord's Prayer.
News Channel 7 told you on Thursday how the Jackson County School Board had cautioned principals about organized prayer at sporting events, but that didn't stop the several hundred fans and both football teams from continuing on with the planned prayer.
One student said it should send a strong message about prayer in public schools.
"It just shows that with God anything's possible, nothing can stop us," said Marianna High School student Trenton Nobles.
The American Civil Liberties Union was not involved in the Jackson County School Board's decision about pre-game prayers, but it said it's against the law for school administrators and teachers to either encourage or discourage them.

I'm sure you're all aware that this kind of prayer is - in fact - perfectly fine and acceptable. I'm an atheist and I just shrug at this story cause I have no qualms about student-led prayer or prayer in public places. Of course if it were teacher / coach / principal-led, then it'd be a problem. Students, not so much.
I am so glad to see there are still people who are un-afraid of the ACLU and those people out there wishing to stop PRAYER in public places. I wish more people had the courage to do more of this. I applaud those involved with the prayer. We need the Lord more now than ever.
Fantastic! I wish more people would do what these people did. We need prayer back in all the public schools. Look how badly things have deteriorated since prayer got kicked out!
