CLARKSVILLE - The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has released new information about the gruesome murder of a pregnant teenager by an older man who then committed suicide.
The victims are 15-year-old Mirna Domingo-Perez and 32-year-old Crecencio Rangel Manilla. Their bodies were found Monday at a watermelon farm off of Whitewater Grade in Clarksville.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Manilla wanted to date Domingo-Perez. But she was not interested, in part, because Manilla was more than twice her age.
On October 5, Manilla picked up Domingo-Perez from her house in Marianna. He told her that his boss was having a party and he needed help setting up tables and chairs. Instead, the Sheriff’s Office says Manilla took her to a watermelon field, where he bound, gagged and beat her. He then used a rope and a forklift to hang Domingo-Perez from the rafters of a pole barn, before he hanged himself.
The rope had been removed from Domingo-Perez’ hands, and the rag from her mouth, before the bodies were discovered. The Sheriff’s Office thinks Manilla did this to make it look like a double suicide.
During the autopsy, the Medical Examiner discovered Domingo-Perez was approximately five weeks pregnant. Investigators do not know who the father was, but they believe the pregnancy had something to do with why Manilla killed her.
Domingo-Perez and Manilla were both illegal immigrants. Manilla was from Mexico and Domingo-Perez from Guatemala. Investigators don’t know much about their relationship, other than they worked together on local produce farms. So, the Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are going over their cell phones to get a better idea about their relationship and the events that led up to the murder-suicide.
