Prosecutors Push For Bank Officials To Pay Restitution

Federal prosecutors are trying to make sure three convicted bank officials are able to pay more than $3 million in restitution when they're sentenced for bank fraud in two weeks.

Terry Dubose, Frank Baker, and Woody West face sentencing July 17, for defrauding the FDIC out of more than $3 million while operating the failed Coastal Community Bank.

It's expected Judge Richard Smoak will order the men to pay back that money.

Federal prosecutors are asking Judge Smoak for a restraining order that would keep the men from disposing of their real estate holdings, their bank accounts, numerous vehicles, and other valuables while they await sentencing.

Attorneys for the men have strongly objected to the request for the court order.

In the meantime, the State Supreme Court suspended Baker from practicing law. Baker is the longtime attorney for Jackson County.
