Publix in Bay County is The Largest Local Contributor to United Way

One of Florida's largest companies is having a huge impact on a local charity.

Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki joined officials from Publix Supermarkets Thursday at the 23rd Street location, to proclaim Publix Appreciation Day.

Publix employees set a record for contributions to the 2012 United Way campaign this year.

Bay County's five Publix stores raised more than 183,500 dollars for the United Way's workplace campaign.

That was a 7% increase from 2011.

"Our community is very important to us, our community supports us and by the gifts that we get from our community we should give back and that's part of our culture," said District Manager John Boatwright

Nationally, Publix associates raised just under 28 million dollars.
