Marianna- Around one hundred 4-H members and Future Farmers of America braved the cold and wet conditions Tuesday in Jackson County, all to take part in this year's Fed Cattle Show.

"We have four events today at the Jackson County Ag Center," said Jackson County Extension Director Doug Mayo.

The first was a livestock judging contest. Each person had a judging card where they would rank the animals based on their overall quality. Mayo said this type of exercise teaches them what to look for if they're ever to become farmers in the future.

This is ten year old Wilton Pittman's second year in 4-H.

"I love it," said Pittman.

News Channel 7 caught up with him and his dad earlier in the day as they groomed their steer named "Reckon," getting it ready for the showcase.

"They're looking for his rear, and see how big it is, and its legs and see how it walks, and see if he's a good muscle fat steer," said Pittman.

And Pittman knew from experience how important a good showing is. The first and second place winners are up first at the auction.

"You think you're going to win?," asked News Channel 7's Bryan Anderson.

"Yes sir," said Pittman.

But win or lose, Pittman's dad Jeffery Pittman said he couldn't be a prouder parent.

"We're five generations farming in the part of the county that we're in, and it is rewarding," said Pittman.
