Meeting the housing needs of military families can sometimes be difficult.
"Educating the military on what is out there. What their opportunities are in either purchasing or rental” said ERAC President-Elect Jan Hooks.
Fifteen area realtors have just completed a course that will put them in a better position to help those families.
"It's a Florida realtor’s certification and we are the second one to have done it here in the panhandle. The other one was done in Orlando. But because we are so military surrounded that we wanted to get a class out there to educate realtors on serving our military" said Hooks.
One of the course's main focuses is on comfortably accommodating families that are relocating.
"It taught us how to assist them in giving them the right information when it came to financing, what kind of financing is out there for them. There are all kinds for the military, the veterans the va. It also taught us about the special needs" said Hooks.
Another area of concern is accommodating servicemen and women dealing with illnesses, like post-traumatic stress disorder. The realtors are now submitting their paperwork to become officially certified to serve military families.
"It's giving them what our knowledge is to teach them what we know and hopefully get them more educated on what's out there and what they can use" said Hooks.
Hooks says they're already planning another opportunity for realtors to take the military certification course next year.
