The state has decided to give local fishermen a fairly long red snapper season.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission set a 52 day season for gulf recreational red snapper.
Fisherman will be able to catch snapper in state waters from May 24 until July 15.
This comes after the feds set an 11 day season last week for federal waters, from June 1 through June 11.
Some argue the catch for snapper is greater in deeper federal waters.
The season has been regulated heavily in recent years due to concerns of over fishing.
