Rescue Mission Provides Holiday Meal

Volunteers with the Panama City Rescue Mission are working to make sure everyone, including the homeless, get a nice meal for Christmas.

They held a special luncheon on Monday.

Rescue Mission officials say more than one thousand people in Bay County are homeless.

Thanks to donations given to the mission, staff members were able to serve the meals, only paying $1.92 per person.

The meal included ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the trimmings along with dessert.

Officials say it couldn't have happened without dedicated volunteers.

"People have donated a lot of food and money to be able to purchase ham and things that we really need for the meal. We'll probably serve 400 people just for this meal," said Reverend Billy Fox.

"This is very good. It's nice to have people that care about people that are less fortunate, that don't have and then provided with a good meal," said Rickey Everly.

Staff members say they'll serve about 5,000 meals to people in need throughout the week of Christmas.
